Birth with Us, Baby!

Doulas

The benefits of a trained doula are:

· The recognition that birth is a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life.

· Assistance in preparing for and carrying out birth plans.

· Shared knowledge of the birthing process.

· Continuous emotional and physical (non-medical) support throughout labor.

· An objective viewpoint that assists in getting the information needed to make informed choices.

· Support that compliments rather than displaces the partner and clinical care provider.

· Assistance with breastfeeding.

I have always had a fascination for and love of pregnancy and birth. That passion, along with my own search for "natural" and "alternative" choices in my own quest for health, led me to become a DONA certified birth doula. I believe every woman deserves a respectful and reverent birth, and I believe in helping mothers and families find healing and empowerment through pregnancy, birth and parenting.

I work with mothers and families of all kinds, but have a special place in my heart for and experience working with teenage and single mothers, both those with support and those without, and both those who choose to parent and those who choose adoption for their babies.

As an adoptive mother of four children, adopted between the ages of 8 weeks and 14 years, I also have a passion for and experience in attachment parenting, adoptive breastfeeding, and grief issues regarding adoption, both in adoptive and birth parents. I have used these experiences in my work as a doula to help bring healing and empowerment, and to help mothers of all kinds in their journeys as women and as mothers.

I would love to visit with you. Please call me at 406-579-8624, email me at healinghandsdoula@yahoo.com or visit my website at www.healinghandsbirth.com.

My journey to helping women in birth has been in the making from the time I was in junior high when a friend’s mother gave birth at home, something I had never heard of before.  It continued through high school when I would baby sit for a women apprenticing to become a midwife.  It continued when I moved to Africa and had my first baby there, and it continued when I caught the baby of a young woman who lived with us, also while in Africa.

Through the encouragement of a dear friend and midwife, I decided to meet the necessary requirements to attain certification as a doula.  It is my honest belief that women need to be supported throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period.  My purpose is to inform women.  To let them know that birth is normal, that their bodies were specifically designed to give birth, and that much of what they go through is common to the millions and millions of woman who have given birth through the millennia.  Indeed, it is a great honor to be a part of the joy, struggle, beauty, and strength of birth.

As a doula, I believe birth is every woman’s rite of passage into motherhood. I place my trust in a woman’s innate ability to birth her baby safely. I encourage women to work with their bodies as I follow their lead. It is my goal to be of support in addition to, not in place of a woman’s partner. My heart found joy serving pregnant women, and I have worked as a doula on and off since 2005. I love watching a woman rise to the challenge of childbirth and sharing her happiness as she looks into the eyes of her newborn baby for the first time.

My undergraduate work in Food and Nutrition at Montana State University serves as the basis for prenatal nutrition counseling. My experience and education in the birth field includes a 2 year study of midwifery in Ashland, Oregon and training with Penny Simkin, author of THE BIRTH PARTNER, and founder of The Simkin School of Allied Birth Advocates.

Please call me to schedule an interview to determine if I am the right doula for you. You can contact me at 406.579.2934, and visit my website at

My love of the birth process developed naturally, through the wonderful, all natural births of my daughters, one at the hospital and one at home. My loving husband Mike and sweet doula Rebecca inspired and helped me relax and work with my labor. As a result, I had remarkably short, easy and joyful labors. My training with Bradley Method in 2001 and learning from each and every Bellabirthing couple's birth since 2002 has enriched my knowledge of and compassion for the unique experience of birth.

Currently I teach 4 and 8 week natural birth preparation classes. My classes are small with a lot of personal attention. I love that some of my best girlfriends are former students. My classes focus on the normalcy of birth and instill a confidence in the natural process, whether couples birth at home with midwives or in the hospital with doctors. In addition, I offer my services as a doula. I love the adrenalin rush that comes from helping a mom birth just the way she wants and the complete joy of seeing a baby be born into the world. I feel tremendously blessed to have found a way to make a positive difference in the world and can't imagine a better job.

I've lived in the Gallatin Valley for 15 years and my heart is definitely in this place. I grew up in Lewistown where my dad is a horse trainer and my mom is a retired medical office manager. I have a fabulous husband, Mike, and two beautiful daughters, Katalyn and Isabella, and a very loyal Kelpie dog, Bear cub. I graduated from MSU with a Master's in History in 2000. These days teaching birthing, doula work and home schooling my girls keep me very busy. I can be reached at 388.0707. www.bellabirthing.com

I decided to become a doula shortly after participating in a friend’s labor and delivery. Her experience was very different than the natural birth that I had only months before, but she still had the same level of satisfaction with her delivery that I had with mine. I believe that every woman deserves to have a fulfilling birth experience. My goal is to support families and inform them of their choices so that they are most likely to have an empowered birth process. I am proud to share my knowledge of physical and mental support to help make labor more manageable for the ENTIRE family.  For more information, please visit my website at www.blesseddelivery.com.
